How to Stop Your Bra Band From Rolling Up or Riding Up

If your bra band rolls up or rides up your back by midday, the support is gone no matter how good the cups are. The band does most of the work in any bra, and once it moves, everything moves. Here is why it happens and how to fix it for good.

Why the band rolls or rides up

Three culprits, usually in this order. The band is too big, so it has nothing to anchor against and slides up your back. The band is too narrow or made of thin, slick elastic, so it folds over on itself when you sit or reach. Or the band has stretched out with wear and lost its grip entirely.

Fix 1: check the size first

A band that fits sits level all the way around your body, snug on the loosest hook. If it rides up in the back, the band is likely too big, not too small. Going down a band size (and up a cup to compensate) often solves the ride-up on its own. For the full sizing method, see our complete guide to wireless bras with real support over 40.

Fix 2: choose a wide, bonded band

Width is what stops the fold-over. A band at least two fingers wide distributes the hold across more skin, lies flat, and has no thin edge to flip. Bonded construction keeps it smooth instead of curling like traditional elastic.

Fix 3: replace stretched-out bands

Elastic has a lifespan. If a bra that used to stay put now rolls, the band has aged out. No adjustment brings back dead elastic.
